Chinese telecommunications equipment supplier ZTE has signed an agreement with Hutchison 3G of the UK to provide 3G handsets. The first batch of ZTE-3 co-branded WCDMA handsets have been shipped and are being launched before Christmas.
ZTE and Hutchison 3G have been closely collaborating on the ZTE F866 3G handsets for the past year. The clamshell phone provides GSM and UMTS access, with various multimedia capabilities.
Hutchison 3G operates 3G services in nine markets including the UK, Italy, Sweden, Australia and Hong Kong, with some 10 million customers worldwide.
The supply deal comes on the heels of ZTE's research and develoment contract with France Telecom earlier this month, further increasing the company's European presence.
