This is a little two-vote poll just to guage how many Talk3G members have got the Nokia 6280. Here we are in the second week in December, and the handset is due for imminent availability, with the forums buzzing about the new little slider.
So vote above if you have one, confidentiality assured :)

I think Nokia have missed the boat for Christmas 2005 re the 6280.

A veritable marketing disaster for that little handset - many (I suspect) will now await the N80 instead!

02 seem to have changed their available date for the 6280 to January 2006 in the 'Coming soon' section of their on-line store.

Hey, welcome to Talk3G!
How are you finding the 6280? How does it compare with previous phones you've owned?

I have just noticed that 02 have now changed their 6280 availability date on their 'coming soon' phones section of their website to March 2006.

Hi all,
Any solution yet to lock the 6280 to 2g as you can with other nokias?
Cheers

No solution as far as I'm aware, the other Nokia's utilise a S60 application which isn't applicable here.
I take it the handset is on Three?

I thought about this phone, but it is just better for me to wait until the N80 comes out. Hopefully it will be in the shops by the end of May. I know some people have stated that it will be out Mid April but we all know how these dates slip.

Ben,
Thanks for reply. Yes the 6280 is on three. I know of the s60/netmonitor method, but I was thinking of something on the line of the 7600 where you have to activate a hidden menu, do a hard reset etc.

AFAIK the 7600 was also a flavour of S60. As the 6280 is the first Nokia to run 3G on S40 it's likely that if there is some kind of trick it hasn't been discovered yet. It might take a complete software flash with generic firmware :(

7600 was s40v2
6280 is s40v3
this is so much fun, whizzy little menus, fun texting, really sturdy when open, pretty solid when shut,
wheee!!

Well I never, I stand corrected. One hell of a lot of work must have been undertaken to arrive at the version of S40 implemented in the 6280! As for whizzy, it has to be said that S40 is satisfyingly quick, especially when compared to big-brother S60.

Errr, yes. I used my 6680 the other day and it was s.l.o.wwwwwww by comparison with the 6280 which positively whizzes along. It may not be a "Smartphone" in the conventional sense, but for the life of me I cant see that I make any less use of it in terms of functions and apps. I'm even tempted to start using the inbuilt calendar/diary system, it is that easy to use by comparison.

is your browser slow when starting up?

Not particularly, in fact it is much quicker than the 6680. It is by no means instant, but it is quite fast.

Looks like I might be selling my N70, the 6280 covers everything, bigger keys, easier to text with, bigger screen, easier to remove memory card.

@mob453 - I have to be honest and say that I am not missing my 6680 at all in comparison to the 6280. The latter is much more pocketable and is easier in the hand (keypad, slider, camera etc.).
There are some features of the N70 (my lad has one) that the 6280 does not offer - such as the inbuilt image editing. But if you don't use them you'd not miss them on the 6280

Just set up my new contract with 3 - and I had a 6280. Doesn't seem to be any problems so far but the 'up' button being for 'active standby' is really annoying and I don't seem to be able to change it.
Also if I had this phone flashed, would it then be unlocked to all networks?
And would I have to manually enter 3's mobile web settings? If so where do I get them from?

flashing would not unlock the phone to all networks
3 settings are available on www.nokia.co.uk under support.
My phone is on H3G UK variant 3.81
generic was okay, but the useless PTT icon did not impress me
