I've just had a replacement 6680 delivered this week from my insurance company following an accident with my old 6680, and was expecting the software on it to be the same, or updated, as the one I had previously had for six months.
Something that is on my new handset that was not there before is something called "3 Viewer", which basically is a completely false desktop with very annoying scrolling adverts for today on 3 accross the bottom.
Is there a way of disabling this or deleting it? When you try deleting it through the menu the phone just says 'Unable to delete Viewer'. I'm guessing this is a new thing 3 have added recently, but I have to say even after just two days I'm finding it very irritating, even if it's just because I can no longer personalise the navigation keys.

Eeeep! Scrolling adverts?! Like an updated changing thing? That would infuriate me, in fact, Orange's "Today " signature phone screen lasted 1 week on my 6680. Only thing I can suggest is a trip to your local Nokia repair centre, what like I did, suggesting to them that the SW on the handset is causing you problems and that you'd like a "generic flash"... No unlocking, just a bland old sensible 6680 :)
Let us know how you get on.

Yeh, it looks as though they update automatically every day. It scrolls across every second with a different advert. At the moment it's saying 'Rewind with the mighty Stereophonics... Argentina game will be special - Sven... The nation remembers (Free)... Check out your celeb pics in Heat daily... Have fun with See Me TV (10p).
What also is irritating about this is when they have a price on them, and you press the navigation key (which used to be the menu key) you are billed this amount straight away without warning and taken straight to the video. One of the ads had a price on last night of £1 for a video, and I was wanting to open the menu up on the phone but by accidentally pressing the navigation key I was billed a quid for a video I didn't want to watch!
I would say this is reason enough, if I ask nicely, to get it taken off.

Christ almighty! That's absolutely shocking!
It's almost like the days when ISP's were offering free Internet in exchange for a scroll bar on your PC screen showing adverts. That, I should add, died a swift death.
I can understand how this practice would significantly boost 3's non-voice revenues and allow them to obtain a higher ARPU as they're literally one step short of just forcing you to watch (and pay for) content. For new customers, given the excellent value Three's voice tariffs offer, the ticker may be acceptable, but for existing customers who are used to paying their monthly line rental for great value without any such catches I suspect it'll be largely unacceptable.
I'm very concerned that this is a huge step in the wrong direction, and concerned even more so that other networks might follow suit.
