In a new survey by Harris Research of 1918 mobile users, only 266 users had 3G phones, about 14%. The survey found just 77 active 3 UK customers, less than 4%!! Vodafone 3G managed 21% and 02 had 17% of the 3G market which means that together they had MORE 3G users than 3!!
if the survey is accurate (and 1918 is a healthy sample), and 3 UK only have 4% of the total UK mobile market things are much worse in terms of churn than was previously thought.
The stats are very interesting as they mirror a similar survey a few months ago, interesting to see that both Vodafone and 02 seem to have had a healthy uptake of 3G services in less than 1 year.
"A recent survey by Harris Interactive shows that although 3G mobile phones have reached a nine percent (9%) share of the mobile phone market in Great Britain, 41% of 3G users are only using their phone for talking and texting. Furthermore, some users are not even aware of their phone's 3G capabilities. This is highlighted by the 14% of UK adults who currently have their mobile phone service provided through '3' (a provider which offers only 3G phone service), who say that their mobile phone is not 3G."
