It has been revealed in a press article by Bob Fuller (3 UK CEO) that 40,000 have signed up for the recently launched Mobile Internet services. There are approximately 1.5 million eligable customers (contract) on 3 who could buy the service.

The long awaited data service is still relatively new but just over 2.6% taking up this offer must be a dissapointment and perhaps highlights the limitations of the 'mobile web' 'walled park' approach.

More details of what Mr Fuller predicts can be found at the link below:

Or maybe it goes to prove that the vast majority of punters want to use their phones to talk to people & send SMS? Be interesting to see similar stats for other operators.

Quite hard to get those as others simply have open access that one can use at anytime without having to subscribe to a defined package deal.

I can use the data bundle on my contract for any purpose including handset browsing, SMS, MMS, Video messaging or modem use.

It's a very silly way of doing things, so I'm not surprised at the numbers. I'm quite reassured that 3's userbase wont just accept anything the mothership tries to feed it.

Data access should be accessible to all, not just to those who can afford to pay a monthly fee up-front.
