Last night I was browsing the Three services page when i noticed a new icon of a video camera with the name SeeMeTv I tried accessing it but i was given a technical fault page.
This morning the icon has gone.
What is SeeMeTv?
Any ideas? Speculation?

Hi,
It was on Today On 3 a few days ago before the icon came along. Basically people send in videos taken with their 3G mobile and 3 allow people to download the video (or maybe video call to watch them) and then you get paid 2-5p each time your video is downloaded. Not a bad idea.

Wow! What a cool idea! Paying users for every download! It'll certainly encourage people to make original and funny videos!

All very nice but will many bother paying to see them?
Sounds like another expesive timewaster but 3G networks have to try anything now to get some revenue.

I love this idea! It empowers the user to become the content creator and even gives them a share (a measly one, but a share) of the revenue. It could open the doors to a world of fresh and innovative content.
Getti - start the Todayon3G SeeMeTV newsflash!!!

I can imagine this taking off in the way Podcasts have for the iPod!
It allows people to create their own regular shows, even series. Publish them. then wait for the feeback in the form of £! lol

If you were a parent would you be happy to have your kids 'empowered' with this money munching thing? I wonder?

I dont see why any parent would have a problem? Its no different to any other content they have access too

I am a parent and I am quite happy to have my kids "empowered" in this age where IT illiteracy is a curse rather than any kind of blessing. As a parent, I subscribe to teaching my kids how to embrace and use positively [and not abuse] any technology that appeals to them. As kids, they know well and understand that access to such is a privilege that can be taken away, responsibility with accountability. Not to say they don't drop the ball occasionally, and face the consequences as such.
I want to see them blog. I want to see them videoblog. I want to see them embrace positively the technologies launched with good intent.
Affordability is another matter entirely. If they can't afford the tech then they cant have it. Simple pimple. :)

Its no different to blogging on the web. Video blogs and picture blogs can be accessed by any child, anywhere, any time.

I suspect the 'blogging' issue is not a big one but the cost to participate in this type of service could get out of control very easily. This service looks like a lot of fun for folks with time on their hands and sadly some will forget about the bill consequences until it's too late.
I thnk parents will have to keep an eye on this type of service or perhaps it's availability might be a justifiable reason why some may prohibit the use of 3G phones from the most vulnerable.

Its no different to downloading music videos, sending videos, streaming content etc. It all costs.
Ben

I'm guessing each clip will be vetted by 3 so I don't think children having access to the content, or submitting content, will be a problem.
I think it's probably better kids paying 10p-50p for these videos than spending a fiver on a single measly game.

Has anyone found out how much they charge to send a clip. I see the charges for viewing the 'selected' ones but I hav'nt seen anything about the cost to upload. Hope it's not like those silly £1/minute TV Quiz channels where they only select 1 in 100 calls.

Okay here's the scoop from 3's portal page on Seeme TV
It costs 50p per 15-second clip that you submit as a standard MMS. The full details are as follows.
It's (sic) astonishing where some people point their video mobiles. See Me TV is a new channel on 3 where you're the star. Record your very own video moments on your mobile and send them to 32323.
Send us anything; dumb, freaky or impressive stuff or just plain rude. You'll earn money every time someone watches your video. With millions of potential viewers it all adds up.
Shoot your video (up to 15 seconds) and send it as an MMS to 32323. We'll send you a text message to let you know when it goes live. See Me TV launches in early October.
Note: by submitting a video you agree to comply with See Me TV's terms and conditions ( see www.three.co.uk/seemetv ). It costs 50p to send a video message to 32323.
Here's what you've got to know:
> You must have permission from anyone in your video before you submit it to See Me TV.
> You must only submit your own, original content. Please don't send anything that's copyrighted or trademarked.
>For information on how you will be paid and for full t&cs see www.three.co.uk/seemetv
So there you have it, that is the general scoop on See Me TV. Not too horrible methinks.

U gotta laugh at these 2 points they raise
# Dont strip naked, nobody wants to see your bits on their handset.
# Talk about sex if you like, but dont go into graphic details and we certainly dont want to see you doing it or simulating it, and keep any toys out of sight.

God how low are the networks going to go?
Do we really realy want to see other ppl in sex scenes, regardless of requiring a PIN or not, I have thoughts of the local pedos @@@@@@@ off on cam for the hell and uploading or maybe that should be of loading!

3 are going to moderate the videos uploaded. Nothing will get on air that has not been vetted by human eyes, they'd be insane to do anything else. The corporate risk would be too great.
I think there is good scope for a lot of fun at not much expense. It just depends if the public buy in to it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
4 July 2006
Watchme.com Makes Money For Wannabe "adult entertainers"
Time to grab the camera and make some cash from those home-made naughty videos.
This month sees the official launch of Watchme.com, a new adult website that enables members of the public to earn money from their home-made naughty movies and clips. Only a month in and the site already has over 2000 members registered with a number of them filming and sending in their own videos.
When video footage is submitted to www.watchme.com it is first checked by the site owners to make sure it meets all their strict guidelines. Assuming the video content is approved, wannabe movie makers can then sit back and wait for the cash to roll in as they get paid every time someone chooses to watch their film on a per-minute basis.
The site offers pay-per-view streaming videos from as little as 5 pence per minute and there are no membership fees and no monthly charges. The unique technology allows members of the public to upload their own home videos onto the site for other visitors to watch. Each contributor then receives a whopping 60% (approx. 3p per minute) of all revenue generated when the movie is viewed. There is already a large selection of amateur and professionally made movies available, and such is the popularity of the site, fresh content is being added every day by members from the comfort of their own homes.
As well as being able to upload your own content and view other peoples’, you can also rate movies, write reviews, and even securely contact the contributors via the site’s inbuilt email system. The high level of viewer input means that the site is extremely user-friendly and ensures that it delivers exactly what visitors want to see.
Submitting movies to Watchme.com is easy. You simply register on the site and upload your video file using simple drag-and-drop software. You then write a brief description of your movie and add a photo to promote it. And that’s it! You can even log in to the site see exactly how many people have watched it, for how long, and how much you’ve earned. Once your earnings exceed £15, you can choose to receive payment direct to your bank account, by cheque or via a PayPal account.
With Watchme.com’s already established worldwide market, and the increasing popularity of online movie sharing, the ability to generate revenue from home-movies is now a reality.

What can I say. If you venture on to any operator portal during the evening all night it's "Babes! Pics! XXX! Blue! Chicks! Models!".
I think this thread was just reflecting the fact that adult content has so far been the only majorly successful aspect of the generally bad mobile content initiative.
Perhaps our new visitor went into too much detail. Or perhaps we should just accept that, so far, all 3G has become is an avenue for the delivery of soft porn.
Still, I remember when the most useful thing on the real Internet was porn. So perhaps Mobile's are on the same curve...

I well remember one of my previous jobs at an American bank, I was in New York at a group meeting about how to do Banking commerce over the, then rather newish, Internet. While all the managers and technologists agonised over how to trade it occurred to me, and I voiced the thought [to much raising of eyebrows] that perhaps we should ask the folk at the Hollywood porn sites how to do it. Seeing as they had a very successful and working Internet commerce model up and running. In years to come everyone followed :)
I think that the exploitative nature of Porn tends to make the industry highly innovative, to lead and others follow ..... inevitably. Maybe we will see that same cycle of events on Mobile networks and the associated content.
Personally, while I have no strong objection to that particular content at the right place at the right time .... I do rather question if that tiny little [mobile handset] screen is really what the consuming masses really want. If ordinary TV is having trouble getting a foothold then what chance does the gynaecological aspect of that particular genre stand?
No, give me a good old fashioned 32" widescreen telly for my tittilation :)
